Putting myself in the place of an Aiun person during the period of Japan’s Hokkaido protection, I have two schools of thought. At first, my life would become better at physical, mental, and social. I would have enough food and do not have to worry about an empty stomach because of the giving farmlands program under articles 1 and 4 of the Hokkaido protection law. It would save a lot of my people from famine. Also, our health would be significantly improved due to many healthcare programs under articles 5 and 6. I would be able to go to the hospital where Western medical knowledge is applied instead of traditional healing rituals. I and my future sons would be able to attend the school where civilization is taught. I and my community would be enlightened by the Western Liberal Republic ideologies. My mind would learn much greater knowledge under article 7. For the community, we would be much safer and more civilized under the form of the police force under article 11. Socially, I would be more accepted as a civilized Japanese. It would be easier for me to expand my life and explore many opportunities as a Japanese. I would not only be able to go to all of Japan but also to Taiwan and many countries that Japan does business with.

For a long time, I already consider myself as a Japanese with the Aiun ethnicity. This does not mean I would lose my traditional and my identity. However, I am adaptable and being loyal to the emperor. I fully and collectively support the Hokkaido Japan protection. And not only that, but I also support helping other Asian countries like China, Korea, and Vietnam to become progress and civilized like Japan. I respect their independence like I honor my Aiun blood. However, I also know that the only road to self-independence is through civilization. And I would fight for the enlightenment and prosperity of Japan and the emperor.
